During the 18th and 19th centuries two styles of painting opposed each other in the European art academies . I paint in the Poussinist tradition of careful drawing and layered paint. Rubins influenced the more dominant method with it's emotional application of paint without glazing. 

In the Quest series, I sometimes did a drawing of a canal scene taken from an etching in my personal collection. I then glaze directly over the drawing.
